COURSE CONTENT
Physical education at Year 11 is a course based around student and the college community needs. Students will be required to participate in a variety of physical skills and social learning experiences, with a focus on developing an increased sense of community and personal wellbeing. Students apply a range of theoretical concepts and physical skills learnt in a variety of increasingly challenging environments. The programme has a mix of theory and practical classes each week. COSTS: Approximately $200. Boys participate in a self defence course specialising in Jiu Jitsu, lawn bowls at the Balmacewen Bowling Club, and complete a three day Mountain Bike Camp in Naseby. There are four main topic areas within the full year course:- 1. Health and Physical Wellbeing Students will be required to investigate factors influencing their participation in a wide variety of physical activities e.g. lawn bowls, golf, boxing, mountain biking, ultimate frisbee and lacrosse. 2. Outdoor Education Students have to show an understanding of responsible behaviour in the outdoors. A camp in Naseby is held with a mountain biking focus where students demonstrate physical and emotional safety. 3 Body movement, structure and function Students will be required to understand the basic functional anatomy of the human body. They will use basic biomechanical principles and the body’s physiological responses in relation to a physical activity. 4. Physical performance Students will be given time to improve and develop skills in two sporting areas and then demonstrate quality movement in the performance of these skills. These will be mountain biking and one other being table tennis or badminton. Additionally students will give details of the strategies that influence the performance of these physical activities and how they were applied in their performance improvement. ASSESSMENT
